Addiction Medicine Self-Assessment Modules (AMSAMs) are approved for 1 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™ each.


Overall Program Learning Objectives: 
1. Identify gaps between actual patient care in practice as related to best evidence and standards of care presented in chosen article.
2. Improve management of substance use disorders that can complicate patient care.
3. Assess current knowledge base of up-to-date substance use disorders, treatments and advances in care.
4. Distinguish solid methodological research practices identified in Medical Journals.

Target Audience
This activity is designed to meet the educational needs of physicians interested in being “in the know” with literature in the field of addiction medicine.

Statement of Need
The SAMs were originally part of the ABAM MOC Part II program, and were conceived through a Committee of addiction medicine experts. The SAMs introduce physicians to carefully selected clinical studies published in peer-reviewed medical and scientific journals. The platform will provide learners with a state-of-the-art electronic open-book concept of self-paced, interactive self-assessment examinations. 

Statement of Competency
This activity is designed to address the following ABMS/ACGME competencies: patient care, medical knowledge, interpersonal and communication skills, professionalism.

Accreditation Statement
The American College of Preventive Medicine is accredited by the ACCME to provide continuing medical education for physicians.
ACPM designates this Journal Based activity for a maximum of 70 Category 1 Credits™ towards the American Medical Association (AMA) Physician's Recognition Award (PRA)™.

Successful Completion of CME Activity
Learners are required to complete all questions in this activity to receive full credit.

Expiration of CME Activity
Learners will not be eligible to earn CME credits from this activity after June 30, 2019. 

Minimum Performance Attainment Level of Achievement
Learners must answer 3 out of 4 (75%) of the questions correctly from each article to receive full credit.

Continuing Medical Education (CME) Credits
After successfully passing the test, learners can earn a maximum of 70 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™ from the American College of Preventive Medicine (ACPM). Learners can print a Completion of CME Certification on satisfactory completion of the Self-Assessment Activity from the ABAM Web Portal.
